Pastor Joshua Perlman of Refuge Church
1 Corinthians 1:10
"I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose."
Several years ago The Refuge Church started as a new church in the West Valley. We were young with excitement and nothing could stop us, until one Sunday morning we arrived at the school to celebrate Jesus and we discovered our trailer had been stolen! Everything we used: equipment, speakers, chairs, bibles, all of it... was gone for Sunday. To say, we were discouraged, would be an understatement. We were just a year in to the church plant and all that we had to set up on a Sunday morning experience was gone. As we prayed and asked God what to do next, the Lord brought to mind several pastors that I had recently met. Without hesitation, churches like Palm Valley, Desert Springs and Streams church came alongside us
and provided the equipment necessary for our Sunday services. We were so blown away and blessed.
You see, my experience with other churches had been one of territorial in nature, but there was something dynamic out in the West Valley that I had never experienced before. A unity for the love of God and to see His Kingdom grow and flourish no matter what.
As the Apostle Paul wrote to the churches in Corinth, he said, “I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose” - 1 Corinthians 1:10
That is what I saw and witnessed first hand in the community The Refuge Church is apart of. The unity to share the love and joy of Jesus is real in the West Valley. The ministry leaders are tremendous and they have a purpose for the cross of Christ. Sometimes we don’t get to see and experience this type of unity as a body of Christ until something dramatic happens. But what I have come to discover is that these men and women of faith who share the joy of Jesus do come together quite often. In fact, each year on Good Friday morning, through the West Valley Good Friday Breakfast we get to partake together and celebrate Jesus with the community we serve alongside the hundreds of others who serve Jesus in the West Valley. It is such a joy to come together as one family and worship our King and sing His praises in one accord. It is so powerful when churches come together to celebrate Jesus, - God is glorified. It doesn’t become about this church or that church, but it becomes a morning and a weekend about one church – The Church of God’s Kingdom. I am so blessed. In fact, through this event is how I met some of the pastors that would help us out on our dreaded morning. Praise be to God that there is a community of believers who celebrate the Kingdom of God and fight for unity!
Because of Jesus,
